INTERVIEW:
- One thing I want my readers to know about me that isn’t included in my bio— I’m a sixth generation only child. And my son, who is 14, is a seventh generation only child. We are all one and done.
- Future plans for writing: I’d love to see my name on the NYT Bestseller list. I want to write a full-length novel one day, but I don’t have the attention span for that many words right now. I’d love to publish a book of my short stories. I’m a huge J. California Cooper fan, but my stories very rarely have happy endings. I’d also love to write something that can be adapted to film.
- I don’t belong to a critique group, but I send everything I write to my best friend. She is extremely critical. I’d love to join a group that offered honest criticism, but my life doesn’t allow for it right now.
- I decided to share my work for the first time after a major breakup. I was in a really bad space… I was kind of depressed and just wanted to share what I was feeling, so I wrote a story and published it on Amazon. It helped me heal, and people loved it.
- I write outlines. I have a really short attention span, so it’s hard for me to sit and write off the top of my head. However, I very rarely stick to the outlines once I start writing.
- I have a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. It’s not necessarily a hobby, but my study of human behavior and psychology does carry over into my characters. I’ve been obsessed with human behavior my whole life, and I rely on what I’ve learned to make my characters dynamic and believable.
- I have not started my next project, but I have several ideas…
- Favorite actor: Morgan Freeman. Actress: Jessica Lange/ Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada
- Favorite reality show: Love and Hip Hop. It’s so deliciously mindless and completely ridiculous and really a break from my “real” life
- I write because adult life is difficult to navigate, and writing allows me an escape from the difficulty from real life. At first, writing was a hobby. It was how I crept away from the responsibilities of my day.

Lost in the feeling of your lips on my skin, I moan softly, and abruptly, your kisses cease.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
CoCo Gem was born on June 1, 1982, in Washington DC. An only child to older parents, CoCo became an avid reader at a young age, and has always had a love for words. “I didn’t have any siblings, so I found my friends in books,” CoCo says. “It wasn’t long before I’d read every book on my bookshelf and was asking for weekly library visits.” All throughout school, CoCo maintained As in English, and she went on to major in English Arts at Hampton University. She graduated and became a high school English teacher, and, for the next 9 years, shared her love of literature and writing with high school students in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
CoCo is an avid fiction writer who tends to focus on the less explored aspects of humanity, including overwhelming sexuality, the heaviness of human emotion, and the constant battle of consciousness. She has several published short stories available for purchase on Amazon, and she continues to write and publish stories on her personal website, www.alisahyman.com. Sweat is CoCo’s first book. Set to release in June, Sweat is a compilation of erotic short stories and poems that explore the sexual limits of her characters and entice readers to be more exploratory in their own sexual practices.
CoCo is currently working as a freelance writer/editor and content developer, helping entrepreneurs to develop the content necessary to build their websites and promote themselves. She is also ghostwriting two novels, and is planning to collaborate with other authors in the future. CoCo has one 14-year-old son and lives in the suburbs of Washington, DC. She sees herself one day landing on the New York Times Bestseller list… if she can ever sit still long enough to write a novel of her own.
