INTERVIEW:

1. What or who inspired you to start writing?

I originally wanted to be a film writer and director. I went to New York for film school and loved it. But I found out fast, back then, it was who you knew and not what you knew. So, I started writing stories.

2. How did you come up with ideas for your books? What expertise did you bring to your writing?

I wanted to represent a different story. One in which a strong woman was the lead character. Most romances center around a strong male lead who takes the woman into his hold. My story is the opposite. Ambra is the vampire and Justin is the human.

3. As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

There are two books in this series and I am working on the third, called Zeus. It should be released this year. I plan to continue a new series as soon as the third is complete.

4. If you could be one of the characters from any of your books, who

would it be and why?

I think I would be Justin. He gets to experience so many things. He falls in love, not knowing that Ambra is a vampire. And when he finds out the truth, he goes through a growing process. I would love to be able to learn the things he did.

5. If you were the casting director for the film version of your novel,

who would play your leading roles?

I have thought about this for many years. I have looked and looked. I would like it to be an unknown actor so they do not carry the baggage from their prior roles.

6. When did you first decide to submit your work? Please tell us

what or who encouraged you to take this big step?

It was my friends. When I began writing, I was very nervous about letting people read them. But a few coworkers begged for a copy to read. I was surprised when they told me they stayed up all night, or did not do anything all weekend just to be able to finish the book. That was when I knew I had something.

7. Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I just start writing. I get the basic storyline down and then, I go back and embellish.

8. Have you started your next project? If so, can you share a little

bit about your book?

I have written the third book in the series. It is an epic story involving time travel for the main characters. The backdrop is ancient Greece and Rome. And it introduces a new character.

9. Who is your favorite actor and actress?

I love Sigourney Weaver. I think back to when I first saw Alien and how great it was to see a woman, not only survive but kick some serious butt. For me, it was the first time that a woman was represented that way and it inspired me. I still love her work, but her role in the first two Alien movies did it for me.

10. Can you tell us a little about the black moment in your book?

Justin becomes very desperate when Ambra leaves him without a word or any explanation. He becomes reckless. It is a dark moment in the book, his downfall. I wanted to show his fall and how he came out of it. I believe that we all have that defining moment which either breaks us or makes us rise.

EXCERPT:

Now, out in the cold and blinding rain, he felt a surge of anger again. He glanced up, blinking and saw the barrel of a gun, right in his face. He closed his eyes. It was all over now. So, this is how he was going to die. Kneeling on the ground in some muddy park. He waited for the sound of the shot, imagining the burning pain. But it did not come. Then, he heard as the men began to argue and the grip on his hair was released. He breathed and kept his eyes closed. A momentary reprieve, confusion building inside him.

The men continued to argue and he was shocked by gentle hands on his cheeks. He opened his eyes and looked up, into her eyes. He was stunned as the rain splashed on his face.

“I need you to do something for me,” she whispered. She glanced over her shoulder at the men still fighting. Then, she turned back to me, wiping my face gently. “I need you to promise me that you will close your eyes, and not open them. No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to look!”

I nodded blindly.

“But baby, how are you free, how…” I stammered.

“Shhh, no questions. Promise me please!” There was an intensity to her voice.

I bit my lip and nodded, not fully understanding.

She paused a brief second and touched my face, giving me a waning look. She breathed through her nostrils and closed her eyes briefly.

“But baby, I don’t…”

“Justin,” she insisted.

“Okay, I promise,” I whispered.

Barbra E Ross lives in Michigan and is a nurse by day, lover of fiction at night. When people ask me what my book is about, I pause a moment because it is not so simple to describe. It is a vampire romance, I say and then, I pray that doesn’t scare them away. Because what are books really? I believe that books are a way to escape the daily routines of life.

I wanted to take an ordinary man and put him in fantastic situations. To bring a bit of fantasy down to reality. It is a love story at its heart. If I can take the reader on a journey and give them a laugh, cry, or simply bring a smile to their face, then it is all worth it. This story helped me through rough times in my life, and I can only hope it will do the same for the reader.
