EXCERPT: Going Gone
Ducking under the window, Kerry crept to the back door and twisted the doorknob. It was unlocked, and she eased the door open. Ryan moved up behind her as she darted through the doorway. Within minutes, they determined the house was vacant, though there were signs it had been recently occupied.
Holstering her gun, she said, “Let’s check each room for evidence.”
The house was a single story with the small kitchen at the back and an adjacent dining room. The living room and two small rooms were in front, with several rooms off a hallway. Kerry headed to the bedrooms. In the first, torn drapes hung from the dirty window. A thick layer of dust covered the bed and dresser, and cobwebs hung from the ceiling.
When she stepped into the second one, the vision began. A shimmering haze shrouded the room, and when it cleared, it was night. A lamp on the dresser cast shadows across the floor. The sobs of a small girl curled on the bed filled the room. Dressed in a nightgown, her body shivered under the thin material, and long blond hair was twisted and matted around her tear-streaked face. A footstep sounded behind Kerry, and she looked over her shoulder. The harsh voice of a heavyset man, his face covered with stubble, told the child to shut up, then closed the door, followed by the click of the lock. The images faded, and she was back in the present, standing in a room with an empty bed.
“Bomb! Get out! Get out!”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Award winning author, Anita Dickason, is a retired Dallas Police Officer. Anita served as a patrol officer, undercover narcotics officer, advanced accident investigator, and SWAT entry/sniper.
Upon retirement, she became involved in a research project that dealt with the death of a witness to the Kennedy assassination. The research led to her first book, JFK Assassination Eyewitness: Rush to Conspiracy, that details the results of her reconstruction of the 1966 motor vehicle accident that killed Lee Bowers, Jr.
The project jump-started a new career as an author and publisher, and she started a new business: Mystic Circle Books & Designs, LLC.
As an author, her fictional works are suspense/thrillers with a touch of paranormal and romance. Characters with unexpected skills, that extra edge for overcoming danger and adversity, have always intrigued her. Adding an infatuation with ancient myths and legends of Native American Indians, and Scottish and Irish folklore creates the backdrop for her characters.
As a publisher, her diverse background has proven to be an invaluable asset. Assisting other authors to publish their works utilizes the gamut of her experience. Graphics design has become one of her favorite endeavors.
