#Hobbies & Writing
Do you have any hobbies and does the knowledge you’ve gained from these carry over into your characters or the plot of your books?
Characters who love the authors Hobbies.
Are your hobbies and skills part of your writing. In the past I always included a swimming scene in my stories. Since the water is an element I enjoy, I’ve incorporated that part of my life into most of my books. Writing this I just realized my current book has no swimming scenes. I might have to add a scened. Ah, but there is a water element for nefarious purposes I don’t want to divulge.
Take a moment and think about what is important to you and what things you are knowledgeable about. Do those things appear in your stories?

BLURB: Sweet Surrender
Ripped from her family at the top of Infinity Cliff, Kimi McKenna finds herself thrust somewhere into the future. Dark elements threaten to destroy the earth unless Kimi can work together with the white witch to stop the destruction. Confused by her mate’s role in the conspiracy, she refuses to acknowledge the connection. But amidst raging fire and attacks on the people she is coming to hold dear, she allows Maska O’keefe into her heart.
Maska O’keefe has loved the beautiful shapeshifter for years. Unable to save her life years ago, he vows to watch over her as he is given a second chance to convince her that even though he is a witch and not a shifter, they are indeed soul mates. Kimi’s divided loyalties between her family and the cause she is now a part of will determine their relationship. Only the part she plays as the messiah can bring this to a conclusion in the final battle.
Your question intrigues me, Christine, and I liked your explanation of why you include water in your stories. I’ve always been a teacher at heart; that’s why I wrote a book about my teaching experiences and write a lot of non-fiction. I can pretend I’m still in the classroom, trying to find the best way to get a point across.
I also have a great interest in psychic phenomenon. I’ve read Tarot cards, angel cards, and practice Reiki healing. I greatly enjoyed taking a course in Mindfulness, which also goes along with doing psychic work. It looks like many of us write about topics we know and love. Thanks for the great question!
My favorite hobbies revolve around my two dogs–one 12 years old and the other a nine-month old puppy (who I thought was house trained until I found a deposit on the floor this AM). Anyway, I love dogs! My fave book is “The Art of Running in the Rain” which is told from the perspective of a dog. I’ve written columns from that perspective, but never a full-grown novel. Hmmmmm.
Oh, yes! Dogs show up quite frequently in my books, as do mysterious, psychic or miraculous events.
Since I’m a physician assistant, all my novels deal with medical senarios, such as people suddenly freezing to death in a warm envirnment, people suddnly going blind without any apparent cause, or two dead, hairless teenagers without a cause of death. My protagonists are doctors, a third-year medical student and a pathologist’s assistant. Another protagonist is a high school science teacher. I have a secondary education degree in Unified Science with a minor in English. I’m a karaoke singer of Rock and Roll and Country, but none of novels have incorposted this profession. The more I think about it, I may add a minor character who sings karaoke in the novel I’m presently working on, Whisperss of Death.
It is really interesting to read these posts!
I like dancing. I used to go to Zumba classes and when the teacher stopped holding them, I began to go to ceilidhs (Scottish country dancing). All of my heroines enjoy dancing and relish any chance to do it. I can’t believe I never made that link before!
Ruth, I love dancing too, especially Zumba. I hope you find another class to go to. That’ s great that your heroines love dancing.
