INTERVIEW:

What or who inspired you to start writing?

I have always loved writing from as far back as to third grade when my story won a school contest and was “published” in the school library. In 2014, one of my seventh-grade students gifted me a journal and the on the first page it said, “Your time is now.” That really inspired me to follow this dream.

As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

I am currently writing a new book that is completely separate from this particular series. I am really excited to move into new characters with new obstacles to face.

If you could be one of the characters from any of your books, who would it be and why? I would want to be Lila., Camryn’s best friend She seems to know how to have fun, but is such a fiercely protective friend.

If you were the casting director for the film version of your novel, who would play your leading roles?

I always pictured Mila Kunis as Camryn, Zac Efron as Cole, Jackson Dollinger as Gavin, Taylor Kitsch as Dusty, Amanda Seyfried as Heidi, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lila, and Liam Hemsworth as Carter.

Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I tend to always know the ending of a story idea, and then work backwards. I will put together a loose outline, but really I work best when I just write freely.

Do you have an all time favorite book?

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is my favorite book of all time. I read it in seventh grade and it made me fall in love with reading. I continue to read this book with my own seventh graders.

Who is your favorite actor and actress?

I love everything Bradley Cooper, dating all the way back to his Hangover days. As for an actress, I love all the leading women on those cute Hallmark love stories!

What is your favorite reality show?

All and anything on HGTV. I love seeing the before and afters of the house projects.

Can you tell us a little bit about what it was like to write a series.

Writing a series is like being in a serious relationship with someone. You really grow to love each of the characters. I found myself rooting for all of them to overcome their issues. You really become emotionally attached to these fictional characters, and when you do step away from it, there’s a void, almost like you broke up with your first love.

EXCERPT:

Footsteps approach. I feel a light touch, and then hands gently finding their way around my waist. Camryn lays her head on my shoulder and squeezes. Gavin stands up next to me on the other side of the bench and links his arms around my neck.

“Daddy, are you mad at me?” he asks.

I lift my head, pull Gavin onto my lap, and tilt his chin toward my face. “You listen now. I could never be mad at you for talking about the baby. You will be the best big brother anyone could ask for. So, you talk about the baby all you want.” I lift my thumb. “Thumbs-up to the best big brother in the world.”

He touches his thumb to mine. “Thumbs-up to the best daddy in the world.”

As the pain melts away, Camryn squeezes my waist and kisses my shoulder. “Are you ready to go, best-daddy-in-the-world?”

I gently kiss her lips and assure her, “With you, I’m ready for anything.” The meaning of my words run deeper than the family dinner awaiting us at home.

She stands up from the bench and turns toward me. “Let’s start small then.” She reaches her hand out. “One step toward home?”

The distant roar of the waves slamming the shore, and the strength in Camryn’s simple words, fortify my resolve. I reach out to my wife, my lifeline, and grasp her hand, knowing she is the only one who possesses the power to save me.

Kimberly Daniels is a middle school English Teacher who took the advice of her students to pursue her writing hobby as a career. When she’s not at her laptop dreaming up new happily-ever-afters, she can be found glued to the TV or Kindle consumed with a new show or book addiction.
