INTERVIEW:
What or who inspired you to start writing?
My father-in-law, Chuck Heckman, inspired me to start writing. He was very sick and I was thinking about him a lot. My favorite show also came on and I was watching that and taking care of him during the day, a story began to form and I wrote it down to see if I could. It wound up being a great stress reliever and I was able to pour out my heart and love for him in it. That book was the first book I ever wrote entitled, The Catch, and though Mack Carter is a one-eighty from my father-in-law, the love I felt for him was just as strong as Faith’s.
How did you come up with ideas for your books?
The Heaven & Earth seriescame about when I had finished self-publishing, The Catch.I knew I wanted to write a series next but also knew I didn’t want it to be the usual vampires, werewolves and witches. So, I chose the Greek gods because there was a lot of them to choose from and I liked the idea of Percy Jackson meeting Nora Roberts!
What expertise did you bring to your writing?
I think I’m a pretty good student of human nature. I enjoy listening to people speak, the quality and the way they talk across the age and gender spectrum. I like writing dialogue and situations that are real not just romanticized. I don’t believe every story needs a happy ending, because that it’s always real. In terms of the grammar and all of that I’ve had to learn A LOT and continue to learn with each book!
What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?
I am an extremely crafty, creative person. Besides writing, I love making jewelry, photography, drawing, painting, designing, puzzling, all of that! I learned it from my highly talented and crazy creative parents. They can turn just about anything into works of art. When I was young, my dad sat with my sister and I at the dining room table and he spent countless hours teaching us to draw. That time and talent can never be taken away. It was wonderful!
As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?
Well, this year has been a busy one with Australia Burns: Volume Two (Dancing Through Tears)coming out this past February of 2020, the Warrior’s Progenyout now and hopefully two more before the year is through. Overall, I want to complete the Heaven & Earthsix-book series over the next few years. I have an idea for a YA series, a children’s book, and a political thriller/dystopian society three-part series.
If you could be one of the characters from any of your books, who would it be and why?
It’s got to be Dee Taylor from both, The Sea Archer, and, The Warrior’s Progeny. She is a huge fan favorite and I’m not gonna lie, she’s my favorite too. There’s something about Dee that is innately pure, yet no-nonsense, and says it like it is no matter what. She cares deeply for those she loves, but she will also not lose her credibility or say something untrue to spare their feelings. At seventy-nine, she loves to wear muumuus of every crazy color she can find and has a fantastic floppy hat that she threads all sorts of things into. Dee’s become beloved so much that when the fans asked that I write a book on her, I did. That book, Dee’s Cornucopia, will hopefully come out at the end of the year.
Do you outline your books or just start writing?
I heavily outline and then start writing. The writing takes on a life of its own immediately but I do get back to the major plot points, so I can stay on track. It’s hard when certain characters don’t cooperate though!
Do you have any hobbies and does the knowledge you’ve gained from these carry over into your characters or the plot of your books?
I love this question. So, when my husband and I went to Kauai, I had written the bulk of The Sea Archer. In that book, Finn Taylor, is a marine biologist and his passion is the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. When we arrived on Kauai, I got to see these beautiful, playful animals up close and they are amazing, inquisitive, highly intelligent animals. I have tried to educate myself and others on them ever since. Not in your face but I did learn about how they get injured and even killed due to our recklessness.
Do you have an all time favorite book?
Yes, it’s the Outlander seriesby Diana Gabaldon. I’ve been a fan of her work since I first read, Outlande,(book one). Wow, was that really almost twenty years ago! She has a wonderful way of helping you envision a scene. She’s real, scenic, fresh, knowledgeable and a true storyteller, in every sense of the word. The TV series that came later is fine, but her words in those books are AMAZING!
Can you tell us a little about the black moment in your book?
Well, I’ll try to do this without a spoiler but might fail. My characters have some big things happening to them. Lilly’s trying to overcome her guilt at moving on when her late husband can’t, and Colt has to make a complex decision about his career and life. All I can say is relationships have a lot of compromise and trust in them and if you aren’t willing to do that, you probably shouldn’t be in a relationship.
What is your favorite reality show?
I don’t really watch reality TV. I guess the one show I did get into was Deadliest Catch, back in the day, but I don’t even watch that anymore. I’m not a fan of all the crazy shows out there now. I guess I can understand the allure to a certain extent but it’s just not my thing.
Anything else you might want to add?
Just thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to spend with me, and a huge thank you to Christine for hosting me. I hope you LOVE The Warrior’s Progeny!

EXCERPT:
Colt’s body temperature heated until his helmet, now that of a Trojan, melted and became part of his skull. Painful, thick, fire plumes ignited from the sides of his head and curved toward the sky, until they solidified in a solid line down the middle of the helmet. Black snake-like smoke wafted up from the earth and encircled his ankles and wrists, locking him into place.
The smoke turned into bindings and massaged tentacles over his chest and phallus.
He looked over at Lilly, who now knelt helpless as her skin became dusky, then turned a brilliant shade of blue. However, the color became an iridescent hue that reminded him of something just outside the confines of his mind. Her skin bubbled, separated, and formed into thousands of compact hairs. Small points protruded from her shoulders and down her arms until they freed themselves from the surface of her skin, as she screamed. Several long, hollow shoots grew, lengthening into the elegant, arching rods, as more buds sprouted from them and turned into thready feathers. As the feathers lengthened, green and blue eyes opened in intervals. At a screech of transformation, Lilly turned into a peacock, whose tail plumed out in a perfect fan. A feathered diadem lifted from her skull and the beautiful eyes all blinked at him. He wanted to mate with her, devour her, possess her, and bellowed out an unearthly warrior battle cry. Breaking his bonds, he charged at her.
