Blurb: Rafe’s Every Wish Fulfilled
Her life was tipped head-over-heels…
When Dallas Shaw realized her long-time friend meant more to her than she ever imagined, she panicked. With the first kiss, unexpected sparks flared between them. Because of her intensifying passions, she was relieved to receive an assignment far away from the town of Cranach so she could come to terms with the raw desire coursing within. The handsome brooding artist who’d painted her many times was a hazard of a different kind. Dallas soon found herself yielding to his mercuric enchantment.
…and so was her heart
Taught to believe in eternal love Rafe Frasier thought he would never find his mate in this lifetime. If he didn’t find her, they would never meet again in the future. Once, he thought Dallas might be his mate. Yet, there was no energy between them, no spark of raw passion when they touched. After Dallas returned from an unexplained absence, he couldn’t deny her intoxicating effect on him. Now Rafe would risk his life to protect the innocent beauty who had seduced him with her tender love.
EXCERPT
“However, marriage or no marriage vows, I will make love to you. Not tonight. Understand you are not ready. Soon, Dallas. Soon, we’ll be together in every way possible for a man and a woman.”
What she expected she didn’t know. Her tongue ran across her parched lips. She needed something to drink. Didn’t think this was an opportune time for her to run down to the kitchen to bring up a bottle of wine or cold beers for the two of them. If she did, would the performance put off the inevitable. Dallas knew this was unavoidable. She knew that determined look on his face. He couldn’t be swayed from his course.
“You wish to have something to drink. I can see it in your eyes. Feel as if at times I can read your mind. I’ve heard shifters can do that with their mates. Know what they think. I like the notion that I will know all your beautiful and sometimes wicked thoughts. You can’t hide them from me, your mate.” Buck naked he walked to a table in the corner of the room. His back was to her; almost as intriguing as his front. Dallas didn’t know when he planned this scenario. It must have been when she was cooking. He poured them each a glass of wine. After handing hers to her, he drank. Set the glass down.
“Now, are you ready? Know that in my cat I’m quite large. Also, understand that I’m not dangerous to you in this different form. I would never hurt you. Gordon and Scratch are a different matter altogether. The pair will harm you if given the opportunity. I would rip out their throats if they tried anything.”
Nodding, she watched with anticipation. Mulled over his words about the two men plaguing her existence. The transformation didn’t take long. Before her eyes, he stood, staring at her. Grinning. Can a cat grin? She found she was trembling. Vibrated from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. Wondered what he planned now.
Rafe shifted!
My god, he changed!
She collected her thoughts into what she hoped was coherent speech. “Rafe? You didn’t lie to me.” Dallas reached out, her heart pounding in her throat. Her hand shook. She needed to touch. To feel. To understand all she didn’t. Prove that indeed he was a large cat. A huge black panther. He prowled. His feet padded softly on the carpet. Memories flashed in her head. Recollections of another time, a moment when Roc was the cat prowling around her. The memory flashed then was gone. She blinked as if a strobe light went off in her head.
Rafe? Roc? Together as one soul. United by time.
This was about Rafe. This happened in the present not the past. He was real. Rafe was now. They were in the present. She shouldn’t be trying to recall something in a distant surreal life. Something about another man. Dallas realized she needed to concentrate on her future. Their future. Needed to see Rafe for what he was to her.
“Oh!”
Rafe landed on the bed beside her. With his huge cat tongue, he licked the side of her face. Startled, she scooted back while he tipped his head as if questioning her reason for moving. Again, she didn’t know what to think or what to do. She found she held herself tight. Her shoulders stiff.
“That’s alright, big fella. Not ready to have you taste me. Don’t lick me. Don’t devour me. Your teeth are huge. You told me you didn’t bite. You can’t be so close to me. Not ready. I’m afraid.” Dallas rambled. Her body shivered, shuddered with her fear along with anticipation to learn more. Before this strange event, she never imagined the rumors were true. The Clan Chattan was real. The people were real shifters.
He lay down beside her. As if he wanted her to pet him, he pushed at her hand. Licked her between her fingers sending his tongue along the sensitive insides. Startled, she jerked. “Oh…!” Unwanted, she felt a slow quivering deep in her belly. He turned, his raspy tongue on her wrist. Heat flared. Was that possible. He shouldn’t be doing that. Should he?
“Rafe don’t lick me!” She pulled her hand back. Bending. Cautious, she twisted close to him. “Can I pet you?”
Rafe nodded as if he understood her words. He must be able to hear, to comprehend. “Can you understand me?”
Once again, the movement of his big head told her he comprehended the words she spoke. Dallas reached out to run her hand along his back. Heard the purr of contentment throb with each stroke of her fingers.
Rafe rose beside her. His teeth closed around one strap of her top. Yanked until the strap slid down her arm. Turned his attention to the other strap.
“Rafe! No!”
He moved back, looked at her, at her breasts that were now bared for him. Self-conscious, she crossed her arms in front of her, knowing she hid little from him. All this added to the bewilderment in her brain. Still in his cat, he sat back again. Tilting his head one way then the other. Gazing over her. Studying her. She was stiff from embarrassment. Mortified to the tips of her toes. She understood he looked at her in a different way. Before there was never anything between them.
Put your arms down, Dallas. I want to see you. Don’t hide from me. It’s been so long since I’ve painted you. Looked at you. I need to be reminded of all your beauty. Think I’ve forgotten how beautiful you are. Join me. Get naked for me. Strip your clothing off. I might do the job for you. Promise if you are naked, I will turn back to human. I won’t do anything you don’t want. Understand you’re frightened. Overwhelmed.
Dallas didn’t comprehend what was going on here. She pushed back against the headboard. A cool breeze filtering through the open window kissed her flesh. She shivered. Goosebumps rose. The crowns of her breasts hardened. “No…” she murmured, as she tried to pull the straps of her top back to her shoulders. “No… you can’t…we can’t. I don’t want to be naked with you like that.” She was frightened. Terrified. Rafe didn’t understand. All this was new to her. She wasn’t prepared.
His teeth stopped her from doing what she wished. Kept her from rearranging her clothing. He licked her arm. She jumped. “Rafe no! Don’t you dare!” The sensation of the caress he made shocked her. Heat spiraled.
I want to taste you. Savor all of you. Not like this. Need for you to feel at ease with me no matter how I look or how you see me. I’ll wait. Imagine I should return to my human. Will you take all your clothes off if I do? Will you let me explore your beauty?
