INTERVIEW:
- What or who inspired you to start writing?
I was always a reader and I think that started it, but I know that a big push for me was in Jr. High, 8th grade I believe, when my English teacher assigned us to write a story I think it was supposed to be a Christmas story. I wrote a story called Santa’s Sweat Shop and the teacher and class loved it. It was the first time I thought I might have a talent for anything! I decided to start giving it a try when I was in High School, though I never finished anything I started then and many years later, here I am with a goal in mind of being able to write full time in the near future.
- How did you come up with ideas for your books?
I started with a thought of a spider shifter and that fascinated me. After that I just started writing, doing a little research about spiders along the way. Most of the ideas come to me randomly as I am going about my day and I try to just write them down, though I’m very bad about it and forget way more than I remember.
- As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?
I plan to keep writing until I die! I have an urban fantasy series coming out starting this spring and I have a sci fi I want to get ready for publishing soon as well as an urban fantasy I’m just finishing up a first draft on. I hope to be known as a prolific author with many enjoyable books and series out there. I don’t plan to ever stop, even if I never find the kind of success that would let me quit my teaching career.
- If you could be one of the characters from any of your books, who would it be and why?
Oh can I take the power and not the having to kill people to eat? If so I would love to be Aranha and shift into any kind of spider when I wanted, spin webs and catch people’s thoughts! Very useful.
- If you were the casting director for the film version of your novel, who would play your leading roles?
Oh! I love this question, it would just be amazing to see my story on the big screen. Well first off, I would have to cast Johnny Depp in a role, because I just love him. I don’t think he could be my main hero in this book, but I’d find him a spot! Aranha, the female main character could be played by Mila Kunis, but she’d have to change her hair to silver. Dag, the male main character could be played by Chris Hemsworth. Maybe someday!! I would also really love to see Tim Burton direct it, I’m a big fan!
- Do you outline your books or just start writing?
I just start when I have the idea. I am very much a pantser which sometimes hinders me around the halfway mark and toward the end of my books. But I can’t imagine writing any other way! I like letting the characters lead the journey and tell me what’s going to happen next as much as possible, sometimes they really surprise me!
- Have you started your next project? If so, can you share a little bit about your book?
An urban fantasy I am working on currently is about a woman in witness protection who finds herself owner of an antique shop in a small town. It’s not just an antiques shop though she soon finds out and on her first morning there she is visited by Baal, the first king of hell, and embarks on a journey with him that could end in the destruction of the world, or not… She also might be a little more than human though she doesn’t know it yet.
- Who is your favorite actor and actress?
I have always loved Johnny Depp, definitely my favorite. I like actresses who are funny on screen, Kristen Wiig for example and Maya Rudolph.
- What is your favorite reality show?
I’m not a big fan of reality shows in general, but I do enjoy watching 90 day Fiancé and Sister Wives, I think it’s because they remind me of real life romance novels in some ways, so full of hope for love! Though they mostly end badly and sometimes that’s fun to watch too! People’s interactions with each other is always fascinating to watch for me.
- Anything else you might want to add?
I love this book so much and am so excited to hear what readers think of it. In particular I fell in love with a side character who, thanks to my sister in law who was a beta reader for me, I am debating on giving a full story to. So maybe more is to come in this world I created!
BLURB:
Aranha is the last of her kind, a spider shifter who preys upon the dregs of society in an attempt to validate her existence and feed her hunger. She’s lived alone for two hundred years, no family and no friends; always watchful for those who would kill her.
Dag is one of a dying species, vampires who can walk in the day. They have lost their companions and live in dread of the day that they too will become extinct; leaving the earth to the vile creatures who prey upon humans without mercy.
Aranha sees danger in Dag’s face, Dag sees the future in hers. Neither can believe the other exists and their lives are about to get very complicated. Together they embark on a mission to save a young human from the vampires and learn the reality of what their two species were doing in The Garden of Eden.

EXCERPT:
Aranha hurried through the streets, passing people who hardly registered her existence. Thoughts flowed through her web and she looked for the pattern she’d felt from the monster she was chasing. As always, she was also watching for scent or thought from any other night creatures. She could never let her guard down, couldn’t risk a run in with one of them. A shudder ran through her at the thought of what would happen if she did. She ignored the part of her that wished for it, the release from this loneliness and pain. Death. The end to all of the darkness and filth, the horror that was this place. It could stop… she could stop…
She shook the dark thoughts away and hurried on, more determined than before. A purpose was driving her. As long as she continued to attend to that purpose, she could keep the suicidal thoughts away. Someday she wouldn’t be able to stop it, she knew she would present herself to the beasts that could take her down and she would welcome the release. Not today, not as long as there was a helpless soul cowering in chains that she could help.
“Shit,” she grumbled as she caught the familiar scent of vampire nearby. She rushed into an alley and shifted, scrambling out of her pile of clothes and up the side of the brick, backing herself into a tiny hole.
