BLURB:
A maniac developing a fantastical drug wants one more thing to finalize the project—a test subject who fits all the parameters. But that test subject is as elusive as her namesake.
Ex-SAS operative Mitch Edwards has been on the run since the moment he was framed for treason by someone in the British government. But he’s never forgotten the flamboyant and seductive CIA operative with the tongue of a thousand languages. In a bar in Cancun, Mexico, Mitch comes face to face with her once more, and with her comes the full force of her enemies.
Reinstated Hera Force linguist and assassin, Nadia Roth, code named Phoenix, has no memory of Mitch Edwards, or of their affair before her team’s disastrous mission. Her traumatic brain injury is tricky that way. But something about this man sets her on fire and tickles the back of her mind. Her Hera teammates remember him, so why can’t she?
Mitch partners up with Hera, with the sole intent of locating those hell-bent on killing him and all who are associated with him. Yet more is at stake than their lives. A traitor hides among their ranks, one who has been revealing all their secrets to an enemy determined to procure this special drug and Nadia for his scheme.
Hera goes into operation mode, doing what they were created to do, but someone is watching, and the team finds themselves trapped behind enemy lines with no way out.
Will Nadia ever remember the man she once loved, or will they perish with the secret between them?

EXCERPT:
Nadia grinned. She loved it when Lincoln got all surly.
Her attendance was finally noticed—by the lone four-legged Hera team member. Thor vacated his position at Jade’s side and slinked over to Nadia. He perched at her feet and peered up at her with adoring eyes. She reached down and gave him a good scratch behind his perked ears.
“Agent Roth. Nice of you rejoin your team,” Thornblade said.
Nadia gave Thor one final back rub, then cocked her head to the side. “Decided my lack of a response warranted you to send in a rescue squad, General?”
“I was the one who made the call.” David stood, and his piercing blue eyes met hers over the heads of her friends.
He had let his hair grow out, and it was curling in a becoming, manly way. They had avoided any video calls simply because it chewed through too much data, and left a bright red trail on the electronic highway. His good old surfer boy drawl had kept her intrigued, and entertained her in those long, lonely hours when she staked out Castillo and his business partners from a distance.
“I guess I can’t stay mad at you, since your breach in protocol sent the team down to retrieve me. How long have I been dark?” Her gaze left David’s to land on the blonde Adonis two chairs to David’s left—Mitch—and the harried Latino next to him. “Why have we opened the doors to non-Hera members?”
“That would be all your doing,” Jade said as she came to stand next to Nadia. “You’ve been in the dark for over seventy-two hours.”
“What?” Nadia backed up. “Wait. What day is it?”
“Friday.”
“Friday!” Nadia backtracked. That would mean she’d cornered Alejandro in the bar on Tuesday. Then her intel from Tuesday morning was still good, but she was running out of time to make good on the information. Damn it, she was in New Orleans. No time to waste.
“Nadia, do you have something to relay to us?” Jo’s command dragged her back to the present.
“Yeah. I do. We need to be in Monte Carlo. Like today.”
Her teammates shared a confused look.
“Look, guys, there isn’t a whole lot of time to explain. The deal Castillo was working on was for a biological of some kind. The Chessmaster is after bio-weapons now and he’s got some hoity-toity neuroscientist working with him.”
“Wait.” The Latino came out of his chair. Matías, wasn’t it? He moved toward Nadia, but was stopped by Mitch. “Did you say neuroscientist? You did say that, right?”
Nadia wiggled her nose. “I swear I did. You heard me say it, right?”
“Matías, are you thinking this has something to do with what you told me at the safehouse?” Mitch asked.
“It has to be. My God.” The man drove his fingers through already messy hair. “It has to be. Why else would they have been … shit.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Winter Austin perpetually answers the question: “were you born in the winter?” with a
flat “nope,” but believe her, there is a story behind her name.
A lifelong Mid-West gal with strong ties to the agriculture world, Winter grew up
listening to the captivating stories told by relatives around a table or a campfire. As a
published author, she learned her glass half-empty personality makes for a perfect
suspense/thriller writer. Taking her ability to verbally spin a vivid and detailed story,
Winter translated that into writing deadly romantic suspense, mysteries, and thrillers.
When she’s not slaving away at the computer, you can find Winter supporting her
daughter in cattle shows, seeing her three sons off into the wide-wide world, loving
on her fur babies, prodding her teacher husband, and nagging at her flock of hens to
stay in the coop or the dogs will get them.
She is the author of ten novels, with more on the way.
