Christine ~ Multiple Submission To Small Ebook Publishers? Bad Manners? Or OK?

IMG_4417

THE PAST:

I come from the time where the only way to publish was with the big houses in New York City. In that period there were rules. Multiple submissions were not allowed. I always hated the fact that I would have to wait a year or more for a rejection or possible sale. The slush pile was high and unless the writer had an invitation from an editor, the writer waited and waited and waited to hear the good or bad news. If the writer was waiting more than a couple of months they could pretty much expect that the news would result in a rejection.

THE PRESENT:

Times have changed. Now there are many small ebook publishers. But is their time not worth the wait? I would never submit to multiple houses simple because the turn around time is not a year or more. Most houses will get back to the writer in a couple of months. The houses I deal with are small. If there is a question of wether or not to buy the book, it has to be sent to other readers to make the decision. I would never devalue the time these people put into their business.

What’s the consensus out there. Is it ok to submit to multiple ebook pubs at the same time?

Or is it bad manners?

Why?

I would love other opinions.
