INTERVIEW:

  1. What or who inspired you to start writing?

As a child I had a vivid imagination and would make up stories and act them out with my stuffed animals. When I was in high school, I found myself re-writing in my head movies I was watching in film lit class. Then I started re-writing books I was reading, adding more romance. When I discovered romance books I found I wanted to write them.

  1. How did you come up with ideas for your books?

It varies, sometimes I have a picture of a character in my head or a situation they’ve gotten themselves into. Other times, I can be watching TV or reading the news and go “what if” and a story takes off. A lot of times, a character just starts talking to me, usually when I’m in the middle of another book, demanding I write their story.

  1. As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

Right now, there are 4 more books in the McMillan Passion series, so all the brothers and sister will get their books.

  1. Do you belong to a critique group? If so how does this help or hinder your writing?

I do, and they help me a lot because I’m a lean writer. I forget to add setting a lot of the times, plus they help me make sure the story threads are tied up and that everything in the book is working. I need eyes on the project to catch what I miss.

  1. When did you first decide to submit your work? Please tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step?

Well, I submitted my first romance novel when I was 19. While the rejection hurt, I kept writing. Life and college interferred for some years, but I still wrote when I could. When my life and job finally got into a good position, I joined Romance Writers of America and started learning and submitting. Everyone from my local Romance Writers of America group to editors encouraged me to keep writing and submitting.

  1. What is the best and worst advice you ever received? (regarding writing or publishing)

Best advice: Just keep writing and learning. You will get better with each book you write and each workshop you take.

Worst advice: You must write “this” type of book to get published. I was once told if I didn’t write a cowboy, baby or bride book I would never get published. Well, they were wrong.

  1. Do you outline your books or just start writing?

I do a form of outlining, I know my plot points, and jot down what I want to happen in each chapter, but sometime the characters do their own thing.

  1. Have you started your next project? If so, can you share a little bit about your book?

I have, I’m currently working on the 3rd book on my Desert Destiny series. Her Desert Horseman pairs Rafi, the 2nd in line to the throne after his brother (until his brother has children) and a teacher. Both have a love or horses, and enjoy a little kink in the bedroom.

  1. What is your favorite reality show?

Survivor – I actually stopped watching it for a season, then came back to it. It’s just fun to watch. Second to that would be: America’s Got Talent (probably not a reality show) I’m amazed at how much talent there is out in the world.

  1. Can you tell us a little bit about what it was like to write a series.

Well, when I first started writing Highland Dom, it wasn’t going to be a series. But the more I wrote and added in family members I decided to make it a series and my publisher was more than happy to do that. It’s a learning experience. I have to make sure I have all the details ready for me when I’m writing, so I have a series bible that contains information on each book, but also on the overall setting, along with hand drawn maps and other information.

BLURB:

Sexual education professor and dominant Cameron McMillan has had his eye on the submissive, sexy cafe owner since she settled in his hometown four years ago, but he was already in a relationship. But that fell apart, and after soothing his heart while teaching at the University in Scotland, he’s back. Cameron is ready to see if Kristen is interested in acting on the sexy words she whispered to him at his farewell party. He doesn’t want to wait another day to introduce her to the world of BDSM…if she’s willing.

Kristen Caldwell never thought Cameron would act on her whispered invitation to tie her up and spank her…liquor and him being an ocean away had made her brave. But he has returned, and she’s tentative but ready to explore her kinky side despite past failures with other partners. The sexy and dominate professor might be just what she needs in the bedroom, though she worries about what others will think if she’s seen with him. Will a relationship with Cameron put her successful business at risk?

Things start out great, but Kristen’s fears and shadows in her past rear their ugly head, threatening more their relationship. She has to decide whether to stand up for what she wants or run…again.

EXCERPT:

“Look at me.” His command was just as firm as his last. When their gazes met, he let out a breath. “How much do you know?”

“You volunteer at the local BDSM club, and teach sexual health at the university.” Her voice was soft and low.

“Yes, but how much do you know about the lifestyle?” Was she really interested? It was hard to tell.

“A bit.” She squirmed in her chair. “This isn’t the place we should be talking about this.”

Cam glanced around the café; no one was here, yet. And his sister was keeping to the kitchen. “No one is here. Tell me.”

“I…” Her gaze dropped, and she shook her head. “Not here.” Her voice was stronger. “I won’t risk my business.”

Someone walked by the café, and Cam shifted in his seat. “Meet me for dinner tonight.”

“I have to bake tonight.”

“I’ll bring dinner here, but we are going to talk.” Cam stood up and circled behind Kristen as someone walked into the café. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, “Because I can’t wait to tie you to my bed. Tease you. Torment you. And take you.” Cam straightened, turned, and strode out the café door.
