INTERVIEW:

  1. What or who inspired you to start writing?

My mom is a voracious reader, and she instilled in me at a young age a love of reading and books. I remember participating every summer in the reading program at our local library and always reading more books than required. When I started writing, she encouraged my talent, and for as long as I can remember, she’s always been my first reader, critic, and editor. Aside from me, she knows my books and outlines better than anyone else does.

  1. How did you come up with ideas for your books?
The idea for “Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship” came to me while sailing on a Caribbean cruise some years ago. I was sitting out by the pool on lido watching all the couples come and go, and I started pondering what life would be like if we could simply dream up our perfect man or mate. I turned this very obviously fantasy notion around in my head for a few days until the fragments of a story formed. These fragments eventually coalesced into “Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship.”
  2. What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?

I’m a super foodie! I love to cook, bake, and EAT! And I also love to infuse food into all my novels. I believe that any food can be an aphrodisiac in the hands of the right hero and heroine. And nothing is more romantic and sexier than soulmates cooking anything together.

  1. As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?

My short-term goals are to complete The Perfect Pairings Series, which I started with my first published book “Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship.” From there, I’d like to systematically go through the hard drive of my computer and finish the remaining novels and outlines—hopefully, getting them published.

  1. When did you first decide to submit your work? Please tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step?

“Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship” was still sitting unfinished on the hard drive of my iMac when the COVID quarantine commenced.

At the same time, my mom had just finished a novel by Bernadette Marie; this was the first book of hers that she’d read. She really loved it, and when she went online to read more about Ms. Marie, she learned that she also owned a publishing company—5 Prince Publishing.

While checking out the publishing website, my mom noticed that they were seeking Christmas submissions. My mom knew I had this book in the wings, so she suggested that I pull it out and finish it.

I completed “Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship,” submitted it to 5 Prince Publishing, they liked it, and the life changing whirlwind began. Thank you, 5 Prince Publishing.

Thank you, too, Mom, for encouraging me to take this magnificent step in my career and your many hours of editing and proofreading. And thank you to my hubby, Jason, for your male perspective and marketing efforts. With our own love at first sight cruise ship meeting, you inspired me to craft a winning hero.

  1. Do you outline your books or just start writing?
While I was doing the edits with 5 Prince Publishing’s in-house editor, I loved the cast of cruise ship characters so much that I decided to create a series; thus, The Perfect Pairings Series was born. At this point, I immediately crafted an extensive outline to keep all my characters straight and moving where they needed to be. I think that anyone who writes a series would be dependent on outlines because connected books involve so many moving parts.

On the other hand, I also have a couple of completed books in my inventory that I just wrote without an outline.

  1. Have you started your next project? If so, can you share a little bit about your book?
My next project is the sequel to “Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship,” which also happens to be the next book in The Perfect Pairings Series. I can’t reveal too much, but I’ll say that this novel’s heroine and hero are none other than bad girl Jane and hunky Navy SEAL Duke.
  2. What is your favorite reality show?

I’m a huge fan of “The Amazing Race.” I love to travel, so it’s a thrill to watch the teams race to and through different countries tackling challenges related to each nation’s culture and history. I’m looking forward to their post-COVID return.

  1. Can you tell us a little bit about what it was like to write a series.

Writing a series is really fun because, as an author, I get to revisit the characters I’ve created and come to love. On the other hand, series writing takes a tremendous amount of planning and outlining as I must keep up with where each character is and what they’re doing as I move through each successive novel.

  1. Anything else you might want to add?
I invite everyone to check out “Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship” for a fun and festive holiday read that will have you believing in love at first sight and the magic of the season.

BLURB:

Chemist and budding romance writer Olivia Chasen is on a cruise to avoid spending Christmas with her beautiful twin sister and new fiancé—Olivia’s ex. Now, thanks to her lonely, intoxicated ramblings on Santa’s lap, her fellow passengers think she’s in love with a fictional character.

Former Navy SEAL Commander Jace Morse has dealt with plenty of unusual situations in his career, but he’s never had the honor, the pleasure, or the privilege of being a beautiful and intelligent woman’s fantasy hero come to life. While he hasn’t officially met the sexy chemist, he’s sure eager to explore the chemistry that’s sizzling between them.
Bringing the charming SEAL together with the skeptical Olivia is going to take more than just Christmas cookies and a little help from Mrs. Claus; it’s gonna take a heaping dose of Christmas magic.

EXCERPT:

“Dr. Olivia Chasen,” Santa’s jolly baritone popped her mental fuzzy bubble.

She stopped as she struggled to whirl around. “Me?” She touched her chest with a dramatic flourish she didn’t know she possessed.

A powerful spotlight illuminated her; its heat burned her already flushed face. She pressed a clammy palm to her chest. “How do you know my name?” The haze in her mind was paralyzing all cognitive function.

“My dear girl,” Santa chuckled, “you should know by now that Santa knows everything and everyone,” he tapped an index finger to his temple.

Santa Claus turned to address the waiting line. “Girls, Boys, Moms, Dads, everyone, if you don’t mind waiting for a brief moment, I’d like for Olivia,” he pointed a white gloved finger at her, “to please come up here on stage, and tell me what she wants for Christmas.”

She stood dumbfounded as the audience and the people in line clapped and chanted her name,

“Olivia! Olivia! Olivia!”

Oh no! What was she going to do? She couldn’t possibly go up onto that stage. She was far too shy to address a theater full of people. But if she didn’t go that would be so unexciting and so like the old Olivia. But she wasn’t unexciting! She was the new Olivia, and she was exciting! And she wanted to have fun! Correction: She was determined to have fun. Besides, she’d never see these people—her fellow passengers—ever again.
