BLURB
The most gorgeous man in all of the British Isles is also the most lethal.
During the Victorian period of England in the great city of London there is always an expense to reimburse. As a young débutante, Elizabeth Montgomerie looks for a husband. She never believes she would come upon the man of her dreams at the lake near her family’s country home. When she meets him, she never imagines her heart will be at risk—or for the man who steals her soul to be the one ordered to strike a deadly blow.
Thaddeus DuBois has no difficulty fulfilling contracts directed his way by his father Count DuBois. Expecting to be the count’s weapon whenever ordered, he’s been trained to believe he has fewer scruples than the lowliest assassin. When he is ordered to take out his father’s latest objective…he refuses to fulfill the assignment. Puzzled by his response to Beth’s beautiful and curious nature, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he binds her to him body and soul.
Elizabeth never expects to find herself wedded to the city’s most dangerous killer, but something about Thad arouses a passion she’s never felt before. As lines distort and allegiances change, Beth realizes Thad might own her heart after all…and she’s not sure she can survive the consequences of loving him.

EXCERPT
“I don’t want to die!”
“Is all the ballast in place? Will the coffin sink to the bottom of the ocean? We are a good fifty miles from the coast of England. No one will have any idea where you are.” Thad leaned in, his face above hers. “Just like Aunt Marry.”
“No!” God, he was cruel. Just like Aunt Mary.
He was so close to her she caught the tangy scent of his after shave. Smelled mint on his breath. Tapping his finger against her nose, he grinned. “You still have moments to choose. It’s me or the bottom of the Atlantic. Your choice,” he told her. Waited. She fought to undo the ropes binding her. Desperate she understood nothing was happening. “If you choose me, it will be a marriage in every way. We will consummate the wedding. We will have children together.”
She didn’t answer. Couldn’t. He was asking too much. Didn’t want to die. Not like this in a frigid watery grave. Didn’t want to marry him. Couldn’t!
“What will it be?” He was giving her time to change her mind.
She didn’t want to change her mind. Didn’t want to feel the ice-cold bite of the ocean. “I loathe you…!” she bit out, despite the fear. Despite the obvious truth he was going to send her to the bottom of the sea.
“Very well, is that your choice? I’d hoped otherwise. We could have explored each other, found more sensitive places on your tiny yet curvaceous body to lavish with attention. Would have introduced you to untold pleasures. My hands along with my mouth are quite skilled.”
“You can’t do this to me!” She was sobbing, horrible wracking sobs. Why did he wake her up for this? Why was he torturing her? “You told me you wouldn’t hurt me!” She shot those tense words to his face. Needed to remind him of his vow. “You promised!”
His voice was calm. Too calm, “Put the lid on tight then hoist her overboard.” He didn’t sound as if he had regrets.
“No!”
Thad put up a hand to stop Jacques. More tears ran down her cheeks, soaking the collar of her blouse. She didn’t want to drown. If she lived, there would be a way out of this. Her father would help her annul the marriage. She would never need to stay with the man. She could get a divorce. He would never agree to a divorce. If he was intimate with her, an annulment…there would never be an annulment.
The coffin had been pulled high enough so it reached his chest. The box was swinging in the air. He was looking at her, a smug look on his arrogant face. “You wish to marry me? You will say I do when the time is right? You will promise to love as well as obey?”
“How could I not?” she whispered in sudden relief. “With the choice you gave me, how could I not agree to something so despicable? I hate you!”
He had to lean in closer to hear her words. “You will come to adore me.” He smiled at her. “Tell me you love me.” Seemed he waited for the words that would stick in her throat.
“You ask too much.”
“Tell me you love me. After that I’ll have you out of the coffin. Tell me you love me, Beth.” He brushed his lips across hers. Looked at Jacques as if to tell him to lower the coffin.
She turned her face away. “If you don’t want to feel the kiss of the Atlantic, you will tell me you love me.”
How could she answer? How could she not? Closing her eyes then with a deep breath, she whispered. “I love you.”
“Louder. Want the crew to hear you.”
He wouldn’t let up until she complied to his wishes. “I love you!” Beth shouted, knowing without the words the frigid caress of the Atlantic awaited her.
“Thank you. I love you too. By conceding to the wedding, I’ve kept my promise to you. I won’t hurt you. Well, except for the first time we make love.”
Looking pleased with the accomplishment, he smiled at Jacques then motioned to the casket. “Untie my soon to be wife then get the minister from his cabin. There is going to be a wedding today. My beautiful bride and I will be waiting at the bow of the ship, a beautiful place for a wedding ceremony. One that will unite two loving couples…together…forever.”
